Job Overview
The Civil Estimator role integrates drafting and blueprint interpretation expertise to deliver precise quantity takeoffs and cost appraisals. This role focuses on generating dependable projects cost estimates incorporating material quantities and labor input.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and update comprehensive estimates and proposals supervised by the Chief Estimator and Preconstruction Director ensuring all submissions comply with deadlines and project milestones
- Evaluate project requirements, drawings, and specifications to fully comprehend the extent of work involved
- Execute precise takeoffs for civil, architectural, and structural elements utilizing software such as Onscreen Takeoff, Excel, and Sage Estimating
- Solicit pricing information for materials and labor from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, maintaining professional communication regarding project scope
- Verify quoting compliance with project documents, propose cost-effective alternatives when feasible
- Maintain comparative reviews of scope, quantity, and cost among received quotes to identify inconsistencies or gaps
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, or related disciplines; relevant technical or associate degrees with substantial estimating experience also considered
- At least three years of construction estimating and quantity takeoff experience on commercial, institutional, industrial, hospitality, healthcare, or infrastructure projects
- Proficient with estimating and takeoff software such as Building Connected, On-Screen Takeoff, Planswift, Sage Estimating, or similar platforms
- Capable of producing accurate quantity takeoffs and comprehensive cost estimations across multiple project phases including conceptual design and construction documentation
- Strong familiarity with construction materials, methodologies, labor productivity, and solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates, bidding packages, and cost reports
- Knowledge of varied construction procurement approaches like Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, GMP, and Lump Sum methods
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and civil plans and specifications
- Excellent communication skills with ability to engage effectively with team members and stakeholders
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is mandatory
