Chipsealing Delivery Manager

About the Role

Take a leadership role in overseeing chipsealing activities across the Lower South region, with a direct focus on fostering business growth, enhancing performance, and developing operational capabilities. As part of Downer, a prominent provider of integrated infrastructure services in Australia and New Zealand, you'll collaborate with customers to design, build, and maintain essential assets.

The Opportunity

This role invites an experienced civil surfacing professional to own chipsealing operations in Otago and Southland. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of the contracting sector, a clear vision of superior project delivery, and skills to unify teams, workflows, financial targets, and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage chipsealing operations throughout the Lower South, including oversight of sealing crews and equipment fleet.
• Ensure safe, efficient, and profitable execution of contracts.
• Supervise project planning encompassing methodology, scheduling, budgeting, and delivery.
• Forge strong partnerships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Monitor financial metrics such as performance, forecasting, claims, risk, and deliverable outcomes.
• Seek and implement opportunities to enhance operational performance and support sustainable expansion.
• Coach and develop team members, building capabilities and succession plans.
• Advocate for a robust Zero Harm culture, maintaining high standards in safety, quality, and environmental management.

Key Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated leadership and employee management within civil construction, maintenance, or related contracting fields.
• Experience handling project and operational management through full project lifecycles from tendering to completion.
• Preferred: tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related areas; however, substantial relevant industry experience is highly valued.
• Strong commercial acumen including budget management, forecasting, cost control, and contract adherence.
• Solution-oriented mindset with decisiveness in fast-paced operational settings.
