Child Care Cook - Full Time Contract

Role Summary

The YMCA of Three Rivers is looking for a dedicated Child Care Cook to join our team at the St. Josephine Bakhita YMCA Child Care in the Waterloo Region. This full-time contract position involves preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 0 to 12, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations, and supporting a child care environment aligned with provincial and YMCA standards.

Work Schedule

The role requires 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with shift timings varying between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting wage: $22.00 per hour
• 3 weeks of vacation annually, increasing with length of service

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for purchasing ingredients, preparing, and serving well-balanced and safe meals and snacks accommodating various dietary needs including allergies and intolerances. Compliance with Public Health regulations, the Child Care and Early Years Act, and YMCA best practices to maintain quality childcare standards is essential. The role demands strong time management and attention to detail, as well as the capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

Requirements

• Minimum High School Diploma
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification prior to starting
• Current Food Handler's Certificate
• Working knowledge of food safety protocols
• Up-to-date immunizations as required by Public Health
• Physical ability to perform frequent light to medium effort tasks such as lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs), bending, stooping, and assisting children
• Commitment to values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and fostering a sense of belonging
• Must be at least 18 years old per Ministry guidelines
• Legal authorization to work in Canada

Additional Information

Offer of employment is contingent upon successfully completing a Vulnerable Sector Check and reference checks. The YMCA considers past offenses in relation to the requirements of working with children but does not automatically exclude candidates. Checks must be renewed every three years.
