Job description

About The Groucho Club

The Groucho Club serves as a vibrant hub fostering Soho's artistic and liberal energy, championing London's stature as a global creative center. Established in 1985 as a distinctive alternative to traditional gentlemen's clubs, it celebrates a community chosen by ideas rather than status, promoting cultural dialogue across emerging and established voices. Over four decades, it remains committed to nurturing conversations that influence culture and supporting creative endeavors, welcoming members and guests by connection rather than credentials.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Chef de Partie responsible for managing a specific kitchen section with leadership and culinary excellence. This role demands a commitment to upholding exceptional standards, mentoring junior chefs, and ensuring the delivery of consistently remarkable dishes that embody the quality and creativity synonymous with The Groucho Club.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and oversee the assigned kitchen section maintaining the high standards established by the Executive Chef and management team.
  • Ensure thorough preparation is completed to a superior standard before service commences.
  • Execute cooking and presentation of dishes with precise consistency and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Maintain stringent quality control over ingredients, inventory, and prepared food within the designated section.
  • Manage inventory levels, support ordering processes, and reduce waste via effective stock rotation and controls.
  • Keep the workstation, storage, and refrigeration areas clean, organised, and compliant with health standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sous Chef and Executive Chef to facilitate excellent food quality and operational flow.
  • Assign tasks efficiently to Demi Chefs de Partie, Commis Chefs, and apprentices, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Coach and guide junior kitchen staff in their daily duties and professional development.
  • Uphold all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety protocols consistently.
  • Contribute positively to the kitchen team culture and cooperate across sections to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Exemplify professionalism, teamwork, and dedication in all work activities.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience as a Chef de Partie or a strong Demi Chef de Partie eager to advance.
  • Demonstrated culinary expertise with a passion for quality food preparation.
  • Excellent organisational skills enabling independent management of a kitchen section.
  • Ability to maintain performance under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thorough understanding of food safety, hygiene, and related regulations.
  • Effective communication skills and teamwork orientation.
  • Experience in mentoring junior chefs and supportive team leadership.
  • Proactive, positive attitude with self-motivation and openness to feedback.
  • Dedication to continual learning and professional growth.
  • Flexibility and readiness to assist wider kitchen operations as required.

Employment Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package.
  • 28 days of annual leave including bank holidays (pro-rata).
  • Access to Wagestream financial wellbeing support.
  • Provision of nutritious meals prepared by kitchen staff.
  • Participation in pension scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme in collaboration with Hospitality Action.
  • Referral bonus scheme offering up to £1000 for recommending candidates.
  • Additional perks such as staff social events, food and cocktail tastings, and interaction with prominent members of London’s creative community.

Eligibility and Equal Opportunity

Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available for this role. The Groucho Club is committed to inclusive employment based solely on merit and business need without discrimination based on personal characteristics.
