Chargehand Cleaner

Role Overview

This permanent chargehand cleaning position covers a 42-week term time contract based at a school in East Lothian, Scotland. Working hours are Monday to Thursday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Friday from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The primary goal is maintaining a high level of cleanliness throughout the school premises, including classrooms, offices, toilets, cloakrooms, staircases, and all active areas. Additionally, the post requires participation in a comprehensive two-week deep clean during the summer holidays.

Key Duties

• Assume responsibility for cleaning designated sections of the school site as assigned by the cleaning supervisor.
• Properly utilize cleaning materials according to supervisor instructions.
• Operate cleaning machines such as vacuum cleaners and polishers on both soft and hard surfaces.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school affairs and sensitive information.
• Perform vacuum cleaning of hard and soft flooring surfaces and spot clean spillages.
• Wipe down furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors, and polish door glass and windows.
• Empty and clean waste and recycling bins regularly.
• Clean toilets thoroughly including sanitary fittings and surrounding areas.
• Mop and spray clean hard floor surfaces, along with polishing and tidying furniture.
• Replenish necessary supplies in toilets and classrooms.
• Close windows, switch off lights after completing rooms, and secure doors.
• Report any misuse, vandalism, defects, or hazards immediately to the supervisor.
• Engage in holiday period cleaning including deep cleans, gum removal, wall washing, high-level dusting, and moving furniture for thorough cleaning.
• Carry out any additional cleaning assignments as directed by the cleaning supervisor or Soft Services Manager.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures consistent with company policies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of BICSc certification or equivalent (or willingness to obtain it through training).
• Proven experience performing similar cleaning roles.
• Background in executing cleaning tasks preferably within multi-site environments.
