Job Overview
This role reports to the Accounts Receivable Manager or an assigned representative, handling cashier duties, petty cash management, and receivable processing tasks for Douglas County Health Center (DCHC).
Key Responsibilities
- Handle diverse financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, and ACH payments, issuing receipts and refunds when authorized.
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with clients, supervisors, County staff, elected officials, legal personnel, law enforcement, judiciary, other agencies, and the general public.
- Adhere strictly to Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, and County and departmental policies and regulations to foster a safe, respectful, cooperative, and quality workplace environment.
- Administer petty cash functions and resident trust account transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, and transfers in line with institutional policies.
- Keep accurate financial records, monitoring deposits, checks, and disbursements from multiple accounts.
- Conduct cash register reconciliations, investigate and resolve any discrepancies found.
- Oversee the financial arrangements and approvals for resident outings, including preparing cash withdrawals and reconciling returned funds and receipts.
- Ensure the security and replenishment of cash drawers to maintain adequate funds for ongoing operations and resident needs.
- Coordinate secure deposit procedures by preparing relevant documentation for the County Treasurer and working with armored transport services.
- Utilize electronic health records or practice management software to verify account balances and produce related reports such as resident trust statements.
- Participate in committees as assigned and maintain up-to-date job skills through research, meetings, webinars, seminars, and continuing education.
- Operate a motor vehicle safely when required for County business.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance and complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification is necessary.
- At least one year of relevant experience in accounting or bookkeeping is required.
- One year of experience with MS Office or Google Docs is mandatory.
- A typing proficiency of 40 net words per minute is essential.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening is required.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience may substitute for formal educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Physical and Work Conditions
This position is generally office-based with moderate noise levels. The work schedule typically follows standard day shifts but may require varied hours including weekends, overtime, or emergency call-ins. The job can be stressful due to deadlines, shifting priorities, and dealing with challenging individuals.
Physical requirements include extended sitting and standing periods, frequent walking, reaching, occasional balancing, kneeling, and bending. The ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally is necessary. Sensory capabilities such as normal/correctable vision (including close, distance, color vision, depth perception) and normal hearing are required. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate computer and office equipment are also essential.
Additional Requirement
A typing test is mandatory with the application, and the name entered on the test must exactly match the application name including case sensitivity and spacing. Typing test scores are valid for six months.
