About the Organization
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is running a long-term initiative named the "Special Program for Food Security and Productivity Enhancement of Small Farmers (Crop Maximization Project-II)." This government-approved program spans over 1,000 villages in 28 districts across four provinces, including AJK, FATA, and FANA. It primarily supports small and medium farmers who farm the majority of the land but have limited resources. The project employs a participatory approach through village organizations to provide technology, technical support, and skills aimed at boosting productivity and incomes. It also facilitates implement pools, input sales and marketing centers, and revolving funds for accessible farm implements, quality inputs, and small enterprise loans.
Role Summary
Based in Accra, the Cashier position is a full-time, on-site role responsible for managing the daily financial transactions of the project. Duties include receiving payments, issuing receipts, keeping detailed and accurate cash books, and reconciling cash and bank balances every day. The Cashier prepares financial summaries, assists with audit documentation, and ensures compliance with ministry cash handling policies and regulations. This role requires collaboration with project officers and accounting personnel to maintain transparent, efficient financial workflows, all while delivering courteous service to farmers, vendors, and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient in cash handling, basic accounting, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Experienced using calculators, point-of-sale devices, and fundamental computer programs like MS Excel and MS Word.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written, with professionalism in engaging diverse groups.
- Ability to work within structured systems, adhere to financial procedures, and handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Possesses at least a secondary school certificate; further education or certifications in accounting, finance, or business administration are advantageous.
- Previous experience as a cashier, teller, or in a related finance role, preferably in the public sector or development projects.
- Known for integrity, dependability, and dedication to advancing food security and smallholder farmer support.
