Job description
Position Purpose
At The Home Depot, Cashiers hold an essential role in delivering prompt, courteous, precise, and secure service to customers. They handle Checkout and Returns transactions along with overseeing the Self-Checkout section. They actively acquire product and project knowledge to inform customers and recognize sales opportunities. Strict adherence to company policies helps minimize product loss.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct customer checkout and return transactions efficiently.
- Monitor and maintain Self-Checkout zones to ensure smooth operation.
- Seek and utilize product expertise to assist customers and promote sales.
- Follow established procedures closely to reduce shrinkage.
Head Cashier Role
Experienced cashiers may be promoted to Head Cashier, responsible for organizing cashier staffing, expediting price inquiries, authorizing Point of Sale transactions and markdowns across various departments including main registers, Self-Checkout, Pro Desk, Special Services, and Tool Rental. They manage initial conflict resolution for customer concerns and support the supervision, training, and coaching of Front End Associates and new Cashiers by employing available development resources.
Preferred Qualification
At least one year of experience in a cashier capacity is preferred for the Head Cashier position.
