Job description

About the Role

CGI is expanding its Space, Defence & Intelligence branch within Australia, specifically focusing on growing its permanent Operations, Intelligence & Capability division. We invite Australian citizens holding active NV1, NV2, or TSPV security clearances—or those eligible to obtain one—to express interest in joining our teams based in Canberra or Adelaide. This is an Expression of Interest to build a talent pool ahead of current and future opportunities across Defence, National Security, and the Federal Government rather than a direct recruitment drive for a single job opening.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support government clients by addressing complex operational challenges while aiding planning, development, and delivery of future capabilities.
  • Engage in activities such as capability development and planning, operational and mission analysis, intelligence analysis and decision support, operational research, and analytical studies.
  • Contribute to concept development including CONOPS and CONEMP, as well as wargaming, experimentation, and force design.
  • Participate in strategic planning, policy formation, and capability integration to optimize operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from Defence, National Security agencies, and industry to ensure successful delivery of major capability and transformation programs.

Qualifications and Experience Sought

We seek professionals experienced in one or more of the following domains: capability development, management, and planning; operational planning and analysis; intelligence analysis; mission planning; operational research; wargaming and experimentation; force design; CONOPS/CONEMP development; strategic planning; defence policy; requirements development; joint operations; and defence or national security consulting.

Eligible candidates range from emerging professionals to seasoned technical leaders. Strongly preferred backgrounds include prior experience in the Australian Defence Force, Defence APS, National Intelligence Community, or broader National Security sectors. Candidates with proven experience supporting defence capability initiatives, operational or strategic decision-making, and navigating complex stakeholder environments will be valued. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities are essential, alongside proficiency in translating operational requirements into practical capabilities.

About CGI and Opportunity

By joining CGI, one of the largest independent IT and business consulting firms globally, you become part of a dynamic Australian Defence & National Security business. We operate alongside government and industry partners to solve intricate engineering, digital, cyber, and program delivery challenges. Our approach blends global expertise with local autonomy, offering members long-term career development and impactful project involvement.

Working at CGI provides opportunities across a broad spectrum of programs, skill enhancement, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams as we continue to invest and grow within Australia.

Recruitment Process Explanation

This Expression of Interest is designed to provide transparency for experienced professionals by building a proactive talent pool aligned with our pipeline of secured and upcoming projects. We commit to openness regarding your fit and potential opportunities. Every submission is reviewed carefully, followed by discussions on career goals and work preferences if alignment exists. If timing is not immediate, we will maintain contact for future engagement.
