C++ Software Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced C++ Developer to join a leading financial technology company. This permanent role is fully remote but requires you to be based in Ireland for tax purposes. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing backend software applications in C++, working on scalable APIs and distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and improve backend software using C++ and associated technologies.
• Design and implement scalable APIs and distributed backend systems.
• Maintain stability, performance, and reliability of production systems processing high transaction volumes.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and support teams to deliver effective technical solutions.
• Investigate and resolve platform performance and client service issues.
• Engage in software testing, conduct code reviews, and participate in continuous integration processes to ensure quality output.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain applications in Linux-based environments.
• Drive technical enhancements and automation efforts throughout the software development lifecycle.

Experience and Qualifications

• At least 3 years of professional experience in software engineering with significant hands-on C++ development.
• Proven commercial experience creating backend systems and RESTful APIs.
• Comprehensive understanding of relational databases and proficient SQL skills.
• Experienced in Linux/Unix operating environments.
• Ability to effectively operate independently within a fully remote engineering setup.
• Strong communication abilities paired with problem-solving skills.
• Proven track record working in agile or fast-moving technology environments.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS.
• Experience with containerization tools like Docker or ECS.
• Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Golang, PHP, or Python is a plus.
• Understanding of networking protocols including HTTP, TCP/IP, TLS, and proficiency with troubleshooting tools.
• Some frontend development experience with HTML/CSS is beneficial.
• Interest in cloud infrastructure, automation, and DevOps methodologies.

Education

A bachelor's degree or comparable third-level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
