Role Overview
The Buyer is an essential part of the Purchasing team, responsible for managing and executing daily procurement duties to secure timely and cost-efficient product supply. This includes handling purchase orders, maintaining procurement data accuracy, fostering supplier relationships, supporting inventory availability, and enhancing operational processes.
Core Responsibilities
- Create and oversee purchase orders, including data entry, confirmation, and tracking estimated delivery times.
- Monitor outstanding orders and proactively engage to resolve delays or issues with shipments.
- Maintain precise product, supplier, and procurement information within the ERP system.
- Establish new product codes and ensure consistent data accuracy across purchasing platforms.
- Update internal teams and branches about order statuses and supply challenges.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding lead times, backorders, pricing, and availability.
- Support sourcing efforts by identifying alternative products and vendors when required.
- Contribute to managing supplier relationships concerning pricing, terms, and service quality.
- Assist Finance with inventory control initiatives and uphold thorough purchasing documentation including price and supplier records.
- Leverage data and reporting tools to promote operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Warehouse departments to maintain product accessibility.
- Engage in continuous process improvements and participate in departmental projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with ERP software systems, such as Epicor, is advantageous.
- Excellent organizational skills capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with suppliers and internal teams.
- Highly detail-oriented with robust problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficient computer skills including advanced use of Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary between $50,000 and $70,000 annually, based on experience and skills.
