Overview
This role involves the skillful cutting, preparation, presentation, and sale of various meat products. Every team member at Whole Foods Market contributes to creating a welcoming environment by delivering courteous, efficient service to both customers and colleagues. Key Responsibilities
- Cut, arrange, and display meats, including beef, pork, lamb, veal, and poultry.
- Prepare specialty meat items like sausages, oven-ready products, and cured meats.
- Ensure products meet Whole Foods Market quality standards.
- Manage the sampling program to enhance customer experience.
- Monitor and prevent spoilage of meat products.
- Guide and assist Meat Cutter Trainees as assigned.
- Be punctual, appropriately dressed, and prepared for scheduled shifts, trainings, and meetings.
- Deliver outstanding customer service by promptly addressing customer needs and employing suggestive selling techniques; handle phones and pages courteously.
- Optimize sales by properly prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
- Follow and enforce compliance with procedures related to weights and measures, health, sanitation, and safety.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary work and shopping area and upkeep equipment according to store standards.
- Carry out assigned opening, mid, and closing duties; verify accuracy of signage and pricing.
- Report safety hazards and violations immediately.
- Perform additional responsibilities as directed by leadership at store, regional, or national levels.
Skills and Qualifications
- Familiarity with meat department processes and operations.
- Proficient cutting abilities to break meat into sub-primal and retail cuts.
- In-depth understanding of various meat cuts and cooking methods related to meat and seafood.
- Ability to assess product quality and freshness visually.

Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 14 months experience in retail.
- Completion of the Whole Foods Market Butcher Apprentice Program or a similar qualification.
Physical and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Standing or walking between 6 to 8 hours during an 8-hour shift.
- Requires fine motor skills including grasping, pushing, and pulling.
- Involves bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching movements.
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning agents and temperature variations from freezing to hot conditions.
- Capability to operate cutting tools and heavy machinery, including box cutters and electric pallet jacks.
- Work environment includes wet and cold conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly wage ranges from $19.50 to $30.20, based on experience.
