Role Overview
The Business Development Manager will be charged with marketing Lummus’ technology portfolio worldwide, specifically focusing on the Ethylene industry. You will seek and secure new business, nurture enduring customer relationships, sustain alliances and partnerships, and actively promote our products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and cultivate new business prospects, proactively engaging in sales and pricing strategies while leading business risk assessments.
- Act as the key commercial contact between Lummus Technology and potential clients, maintaining regular communication with client representatives.
- Lead development and negotiation of licensing and engineering agreements.
- Collaborate internally across departments to align and approve negotiated positions.
- Ensure awarded projects progress on schedule, oversee project management activities, and confirm licensee payments comply with contracts.
- Conduct market research, sales forecasting, and competitive analysis to inform technology managers on market needs and feedback.
- Build strong connections with regional sales teams and other business units.
- Determine sales strategies for individual proposals alongside team members and ensure appropriate proposal staffing.
- Support the creation and execution of business growth strategies.
- Implement innovative marketing plans to enhance sales approaches.
- Coordinate proposal risk evaluation and present comprehensive Risk Reviews to leadership.
- Prepare commercial proposals and deliver client presentations to facilitate technology sales.
- Review contract terms closely, coordinating with legal and finance teams.
- Negotiate engineering package and catalyst licensing agreements.
- Visit licensee plants with prospective clients as needed.
- Maintain and update the sales database to keep records accurate and current.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline; an MBA is advantageous.
- At least ten years of experience in process design, technology marketing, and licensing sales within an international context.
- In-depth knowledge of at least one relevant technology to grasp the technical business aspects.
- Strong commercial awareness with proven skills in sales, business development, and contract negotiation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- High self-motivation and energy, capable of earning team respect.
- Cross-cultural competence with experience working across diverse international styles.
- Balanced expertise combining technical insight and commercial acumen.
- Capability to prioritize new business opportunities considering timing, project feasibility, and value to the company.
- Comprehension of project profitability potential.
