Overview
Rizco Group of Companies is launching its pharmaceutical division in Gaborone, Botswana and seeks an accomplished Business Development Manager to spearhead the creation and growth of this new enterprise. This pivotal role involves designing and implementing the pharmaceutical business strategy, forming key partnerships, and leading market expansion efforts across Botswana and Southern Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute the pharmaceutical division's business strategy from inception.
- Establish the business foundation and operational framework for the pharmaceutical unit.
- Identify and negotiate exclusive distribution partnerships with pharmaceutical manufacturers in India, South Africa, and other global markets.
- Manage product registration processes and ensure adherence to Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) requirements.
- Develop a diverse and profitable portfolio including prescription medicines, OTC products, medical consumables, and healthcare items.
- Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, government bodies, NGOs, and corporate customers.
- Pursue and manage government tenders and institutional sales opportunities.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead an efficient sales and regulatory affairs team.
- Drive sales growth, profitability, and foster long-term expansion of the business.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 7 to 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical business development or senior-level management.
- Proven track record of launching and scaling a pharmaceutical business or division from the ground up.
- Existing strong network with pharmaceutical manufacturers based in India and South Africa.
- Comprehensive understanding of BoMRA registration protocols and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with government tenders, institutional sales, and managing key accounts.
- Exceptional negotiation skills demonstrated by securing exclusive distribution deals.
- Background in building and managing high-performing pharmaceutical sales and regulatory teams.
- Outstanding leadership, communication, and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business, or closely related fields; MBA considered an asset.
