Job description
Position Overview
The Business Development Manager will focus on enhancing profitable growth in the freight forwarding sector by acquiring new clients, expanding corporate accounts, and ensuring excellent customer service throughout the shipment lifecycle.
Main Duties
- Identify and cultivate new business opportunities through lead generation, prompt enquiry follow-ups, and converting prospects into loyal customers.
- Manage key corporate accounts, fostering strong partnerships while seeking avenues to boost revenue, shipment volume, and client retention.
- Prepare and negotiate freight quotations, rates, and terms within designated authority and profitability guidelines.
- Meet established sales targets including revenue, gross profit, and acquisition of new customers.
- Collaborate closely with Customer Service, Operations, Finance, international agents, airlines, ships, and partners to fulfill air and sea freight needs.
- Track shipment activity and customer requirements, addressing service-related concerns proactively and promptly.
- Conduct onsite client visits and business reviews to uncover opportunities for cross-selling and upselling.
- Maintain a robust sales pipeline and provide monthly sales and account development reports to management.
- Stay updated on freight market trends, industry competitors, pricing, and emerging business prospects.
- Perform additional sales and business development duties as assigned by management.
Authority & Responsibilities
- Issue customer quotations, pricing, and handling charges within approved limits.
- Recommend credit terms and limits for clients, adhering to company policy and obtaining necessary approvals.
- Host business meetings and customer entertainment within authorized limits.
- Follow up on customer payments where permitted.
- Sign customer documents within delegated authority.
- Communicate directly with overseas agents, carriers, and partners regarding customer requirements and opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
- A diploma or degree in Business, Logistics, Marketing, or a related field is required.
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in sales and business development, preferably in logistics or freight forwarding sectors.
- Comprehensive understanding of air and sea freight operations, logistics services, and freight forwarding sales practices.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and client relationship management skills.
- Additional sales training or certification in telemarketing, negotiation, or related fields is advantageous.
- Personal attributes include a proactive, result-driven, customer-centered, and commercially minded approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
