About the Role

John Sisk & Son is a renowned family-owned international construction company dedicated to delivering excellence through trust, certainty, and value for clients. We seek a Building Envelopes Specialist to provide expert technical guidance on all facets of building envelope design and construction. Reporting to the Design Engineer Lead, this position works closely with project teams, principal engineers, and contractors to ensure façade and envelope solutions meet compliance, efficiency, and constructability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer specialist advice on building envelope systems, including façades, cladding, glazing, roofing, insulation, and waterproofing.
  • Review and validate design proposals, drawings, specifications, and mock-ups to confirm compliance with project criteria and industry standards.
  • Identify design and construction risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
  • Assist with on-site technical troubleshooting related to building envelopes.
  • Coordinate with design teams, contractors, and clients to maintain design integrity and feasibility.
  • Develop technical solutions for complex building envelope challenges.
  • Contribute to design reviews, coordination meetings, and workshops.
  • Provide input on material selection, detail development, and performance specifications.
  • Promote and support BIM and digital tools adoption for modeling, coordination, and delivery of building envelope designs.
  • Ensure alignment of documentation and workflows with company standards, project requirements, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering Services team.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff on building envelope systems and project expectations.
  • Share best practices, lessons learned, and technical insights across teams.
  • Participate in training programs related to building envelope technologies and standards.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in designing, specifying, and constructing complex building envelopes.
  • Strong technical understanding of façades, cladding, glazing, roofing, and waterproofing systems.
  • Experienced in reviewing and validating designs for compliance, constructability, and performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization abilities.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical information effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in BIM and digital engineering software.

Essential Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Building Services Engineering or an equivalent field.
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in building envelope technologies, digital design, or construction technology.
  • Advanced expertise with relevant BIM and design software.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working within a complex multinational organisation.
  • Professional engineering or technical accreditations such as MICE, RIBA, or equivalent.
