Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Brand Portfolio Manager to direct brand portfolio strategy, positioning, architecture, performance management, portfolio optimization, market analysis, and initiatives to foster brand growth. The selected candidate will integrate strategic brand insight, consumer understanding, commercial evaluation, portfolio administration, and cross-functional leadership to secure a balanced, differentiated, pertinent, and profitable brand portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute brand portfolio strategies aligned with organizational expansion and commercial goals.
- Establish frameworks for portfolio management, including brand architecture, positioning, roles, investment priorities, and lifecycle management.
- Oversee strategic guidance and performance of diverse brands across markets, customer segments, and channels.
- Clarify individual brand roles within the overall portfolio structure.
- Assess brand positioning, uniqueness, target demographics, value propositions, and market relevance.
- Maintain brand architecture, hierarchy, naming conventions, and inter-brand relationships.
- Identify overlaps, gaps, risks of cannibalization, and differentiation opportunities within the portfolio.
- Analyze market trends, consumer behaviors, competitor activities, category dynamics, and emerging opportunities.
- Conduct comprehensive brand and category performance evaluations covering revenue, market share, profitability, awareness, consideration, and engagement.
- Assess strategic health and commercial potential of individual brands.
- Formulate growth strategies based on market appeal, demand, competition, and business capabilities.
- Explore opportunities for brand expansion, repositioning, extensions, consolidation, rationalization, or retirement.
- Support development and introduction of new brands, sub-brands, products, and extensions.
- Evaluate proposed brand extensions for strategic fit, relevance, commercial viability, operational feasibility, and portfolio impact.
- Examine potential cannibalization effects among brands, products, channels, and customer segments.
- Devise strategies to optimize portfolio growth alongside distinct brand differentiation.
- Set investment priorities across brands, markets, products, and customer categories.
- Allocate brand investments considering growth potential, strategic importance, current performance, and forecasted returns.
- Collaborate with Finance to prepare business cases, investment scenarios, revenue forecasts, and profitability analyses.
- Supervise brand budgets, marketing investments, commercial outcomes, and returns on brand investments.
- Analyze profitability, contribution margins, customer economics, and overall portfolio value.
- Develop portfolio-level targets for revenue, market share, and profitability.
- Track brand performance versus strategic and commercial objectives.
- Create dashboards and executive reports detailing portfolio performance, market trends, investments, risks, and opportunities.
- Standardize brand KPIs, performance frameworks, measurement methods, and reporting systems.
- Conduct recurrent brand reviews and portfolio performance evaluations.
- Identify underperforming brands and formulate recovery plans or investment strategies.
- Recognize high-growth brands and develop acceleration strategies for scaling and market reach.
- Contribute to annual and long-term portfolio planning.
- Create portfolio scenarios involving market expansions, new launches, acquisitions, divestments, repositioning, and investment adjustments.
- Analyze competitors' portfolios, strategies, pricing, positioning, innovations, and market activities.
- Benchmark against competitors, categories, markets, and adjacent sectors.
- Derive consumer and customer insights to guide portfolio decisions.
- Coordinate with Research and Analytics for segmentation, brand tracking, customer studies, and market research.
- Convert insights into portfolio opportunities, positioning suggestions, and investment priorities.
- Partner with Product teams to ensure alignment between product development and brand strategy.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to maintain consistent brand messaging and positioning.
- Work with Sales and Commercial to evaluate distribution, channel strategies, demand, and commercial prospects.
- Align with Customer Experience teams to reflect brand promises across all customer interactions.
- Collaborate with Design to uphold cohesive visual identities and distinct portfolio differentiation.
- Implement portfolio governance including brand decisions, investment approvals, architectural changes, naming, positioning, and strategic reviews.
- Develop brand guidelines, portfolio principles, decision frameworks, and governance documentation.
- Manage external agencies, research partners, consultants, creative teams, and specialist vendors.
- Set partner expectations regarding requirements, deliverables, timelines, budgets, quality, and performance.
- Monitor and assess agency and external partner output.
- Ensure brand decisions comply with legal, regulatory, cultural, trademark, and market standards.
- Support intellectual property and trademark assessments for new brands, names, and extensions.
- Coordinate portfolio initiatives internationally and regionally, allowing for necessary local adaptations.
- Identify chances for portfolio simplification, operational efficiencies, and enhanced marketing investment use.
- Keep abreast of emerging tech, consumer platforms, digital channels, and business models impacting brand strategy.
- Evaluate application of AI, analytics, automation, and digital tools to enhance portfolio insights and brand management.
- Maintain comprehensive brand portfolio records, histories, positioning frameworks, performance data, investment plans, and strategic files.
- Lead cross-functional portfolio projects from analysis to execution and measurement.
- Present portfolio strategies, options, investment cases, and performance reviews to senior leaders.
- Communicate complex portfolio decisions effectively to stakeholders across business and functional units.
- Monitor execution of portfolio strategies and measure realized benefits.
- Document lessons learned and continuously refine brand portfolio management processes.

- Robust experience in brand portfolio, brand and marketing strategy, category management, product marketing, commercial strategy, or consumer insights.
- Background in multi-brand environments such as consumer products, retail, technology, hospitality, financial services, telecommunications, or professional services favored.
- Proficient understanding of brand portfolio strategy, architecture, positioning, and lifecycle management.
- Track record managing multiple brands, sub-brands, products, or propositions.
- Deep knowledge of consumer behavior, segmentation, market dynamics, and competitive positioning.
- Skilled in evaluating brand performance through financial, commercial, customer, and brand-equity metrics.
- Strong analytical thinking and strategic planning ability.
- Experienced in crafting portfolio strategies, business cases, investment advice, and growth plans.
- Knowledgeable about brand differentiation, cannibalization risks, portfolio gaps, and brand roles.
- Competent in supporting brand development, extensions, repositioning, rationalization, or transformation.
- Solid financial analysis and commercial planning expertise.
