Role Overview

This position is a casual role that blends hands-on care for birds and animals with retail and customer service duties alongside general daily operations. The candidate will contribute to the wellbeing of the animals and assist customers within the retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely handle and care for the birds and animals in our care.
• Feed the animals and monitor their health and welfare regularly.
• Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of animal enclosures to ensure a hygienic environment.
• Comply strictly with animal welfare, hygiene, and safety standards.
• Provide assistance to customers in selecting pet supplies and bird-related products.
• Handle point-of-sale transactions accurately.
• Respond to customer inquiries professionally and courteously.
• Manage and assist with online orders and support e-commerce functions.
• Help keep the retail space clean, organized, and inviting for visitors.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience or strong enthusiasm for bird care and animal husbandry.
• Knowledge of safe animal handling, feeding routines, and enclosure maintenance.
• Good customer service skills paired with clear communication abilities.
• Prior retail experience or eagerness to acquire such skills.
• Basic computer literacy and confidence in utilizing online systems.
• Ability to process retail sales and support online order fulfillment.
• Meticulous attention to detail with a reliable work attitude.
• Capability to work independently using initiative and common sense.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a positive, teachable attitude.
• Respectful interaction with customers and colleagues alike.
• Firm commitment to hygiene, safety standards, and animal welfare.

Although previous work in pet retail, animal care, or bird keeping is advantageous, enthusiasm and the right mindset matter most to us.

Availability & Working Conditions

The role requires onsite presence at our Kerikeri location. Candidates must be willing to work during weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods, which are important operational times for the business.
