Position Overview
The Bindery Operator (Bookbinder) role is a permanent full-time position located onsite at 975 Gladstone Ave, Ottawa, Ontario. The role involves setting up and operating industrial bindery equipment to produce high-quality finished products.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and operate bookbinding machinery to perform tasks such as cutting, collating, folding, stitching, and stamping.
- Make necessary adjustments to machinery to ensure efficient function and maintain quality finishing standards.
- Review job orders to establish production timelines and required quantities.
- Carry out various other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Fluency in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
- Ability to obtain and sustain a Government of Canada Secret (Level II) security clearance promptly.
- Physical capability to perform tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting/lowering up to 75 pounds.
- Flexibility to work all shifts including days, nights, evenings, and required overtime; primarily expected to work a night shift schedule of 3 nights on, 4 nights off, with a 7.5% wage premium for night shifts.
- Minimum of 3 years hands-on bindery experience.
- Proficiency with bindery equipment such as cutters, saddle stitchers, perfect binders, collators, hot stampers, embossing, and debossing machines.
- Experience with foil stamping, laser cutting, and lamination is advantageous.
- Strong mechanical skills coupled with developed analytical abilities.
- High attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
