Job Summary
The Billing Officer manages the precise handling of customer accounts related to electricity, water, and fiber internet utility services. Responsibilities include timely meter data processing, billing issuance, account management, payment tracking, service activation, and maintaining excellent data accuracy and customer service standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Produce accurate monthly bills for all utility sectors—Electricity, Water and Sewerage, Internet, and Gas—utilizing ecWIN7 and Sage 300 software.
- Act as the primary contact for Alaro Utilities customers, managing complaints and inquiries efficiently.
- Perform timely and precise daily and weekly nominations of gas volumes.
- Oversee the comprehensive gas shipping operations and reconcile gas volume data.
- Handle billing adjustments, credits, and corrections in line with authorization.
- Identify metering inconsistencies promptly and escalate as necessary.
- Review and process new customer applications across all utilities.
- Create and maintain detailed customer profiles, including contact information, tariffs, and service status.
- Monitor payments received through designated channels and pursue overdue accounts actively.
- Provide account statements to customers upon request.
- Reconcile billing data with payment receipts to ensure accuracy.
- Compile monthly billing performance analyses and reports.
- Maintain an updated scheduling system for all utility customers.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or related disciplines.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in billing roles, preferably within utility organizations.
Technical Expertise
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as Sage 300 or equivalents.
- Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Excel for comprehensive data analysis and reporting tasks.
- Strong numerical aptitude combined with analytical skills.
- Knowledge of the Nigerian Gas Network Code (NGNC) and operational familiarity.
- Competence in reconciling billing and payments accurately.
- Good understanding of utility metering and billing cycles.
