Basic Grade Radiographer - UPMC Whitfield Hospital

About the Role

The Diagnostic Imaging Department at UPMC Whitfield Hospital delivers diagnostic services to both inpatients and outpatients, encompassing General Radiography, Theatre Imaging, Ultrasound, DEXA, MRI, CT, and CathLab services. The appointed radiographer will be an integral part of the Radiography Department and multidisciplinary teams, providing exemplary radiography care within assigned areas and adhering to professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage consistently in the general radiography services and actively pursue training for professional growth and new competencies.
• Participate in out-of-hours radiography services when needed.
• Uphold high-quality patient care and accurate radiographic techniques at all times.
• Strictly observe radiation safety principles including justification, optimization, ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), and established local regulations.
• Follow all statutory directives related to radiography practice.
• Maintain and update clinical and technical expertise through ongoing training and advice.
• Ensure the work environment is clean, safe, and in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Report equipment malfunctions promptly to supervisors and document faults appropriately.
• Take part in regular quality assurance procedures and support UPMC's accreditation processes.
• Adhere to relevant legislation and departmental policies such as ionizing radiation regulations, infection control, fire safety, and hospital protocols.
• Foster cooperative relationships with colleagues and hospital staff to promote efficient teamwork.
• Attend further training programs as required for continuous departmental service improvement and professional development.
• Contribute actively to accreditation efforts as part of ongoing service excellence initiatives.
• Develop comprehensive knowledge of clinical risk management, occupational health, facilities management, patient handling, basic life support, health and safety, financial controls, patient complaints procedures, and falls management.
• Efficiently operate Radiology Information System (RIS), PACS, and other relevant IT systems to support daily functions and departmental data analysis.
• Perform work safely in compliance with health, safety, and welfare legislation, while identifying and mitigating workplace risks.

Qualifications and Experience

• Hold a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Radiography or a Diploma from the College of Radiographers, validated by the Department of Health.
• Preferably possess 1 to 2 years of prior experience working within a Radiography Department.
• Experience with CT and DEXA imaging techniques is desirable.
• Competence in using RIS software is expected.
• Availability and experience in out-of-hours/on-call duties is advantageous.
• Flexibility to adapt to daily general department needs and additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Strong understanding of radiation safety and health & safety regulations.
• Up-to-date knowledge of current diagnostic radiography theories and practices.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary ranges from c44,955.86 to c62,869.46 for a full-time permanent contract (35 hours weekly). A panel may be formed for filling current and future vacancies, including full or part-time positions, permanent or specified purpose contracts.
