Overview
The Barback plays a crucial support role in ensuring the bar is fully prepared and maintained for the bartenders to provide efficient service. Key duties include preparing garnishes and juices, replenishing coolers and stock areas, maintaining the bar cleanliness, delivering food to patrons at the bar, and setting up/breaking down the bar area.
The ideal candidate should be courteous, responsible, and professional, with a thorough understanding of alcoholic beverage varieties and garnishing methods. Effective teamwork, clear communication, and consistent delivery of high-quality customer service are essential.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with servers to maintain clear communication regarding guests’ needs and requests.
- Clear and tidy the bar area regularly.
- Prepare and stock all garnishes and bar service essentials.
- Serve and replenish water to guests.
- Prepare and serve coffee and tea as required.
- Uphold cleanliness and organization of the entire bar area at all times.
- Stock and arrange beverages including alcoholic drinks, juices, non-alcoholic beverages, and mixers.
- Polish glassware and silverware to maintain presentation standards.
- Ensure a safe and sanitary environment in the dining area and service stations complying with health and safety regulations.
- Adhere fully to all federal, state, and local regulations related to health, safety, and labor requirements concerning restaurant employees and guests.
- Perform additional support tasks as necessary to maintain smooth operations.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Fluent comprehension, reading, writing, and verbal communication in the primary language used for guest and colleague interactions.
- Proficient literacy to support clear communication processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic proficiency in computer use and comprehensive knowledge of POS systems.
- Familiarity with proper table settings and service ware.
- Capability to describe menu items, their preparation, and pricing; utilize suggestive selling to highlight house specialties.
- Complete understanding of product details and menu specifications.
- Must be of legal age required to serve alcohol.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in hospitality or food and beverage service is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift items weighing at least 30 lbs regularly.
- Capable of pushing and pulling carts and equipment up to 75 lbs consistently.
- Capacity to stand and remain mobile throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Continuous engagement in talking and listening for guest and team communication.
- Regular use of near vision and depth perception for duties.
