Job description
Position Summary
The Bar Captain serves as a knowledgeable point of contact for guests regarding the details of wines, including their origin, vintage, and variety. Responsibilities include verifying the quality and quantity of stock and supplies, managing requisitions, and conducting bottle-for-bottle liquor restocks. The Bar Captain communicates closing times, professionally prepares drink orders following specific recipes, and handles wine or champagne bottle service.
Managing the cash bank at the end of shifts by counting, completing cashier reports, resolving discrepancies, securing receipts, and safeguarding cash is required. Maintaining security for all liquor storage areas and anticipating supply replenishment needs are vital duties. The role ensures collaborative teamwork among staff and supports management in various personnel matters such as hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplinary actions, motivation, and coaching while exemplifying strong leadership.
Additional Responsibilities
- Strict adherence to company policies and safety/security procedures, including reporting accidents or unsafe conditions.
- Maintaining a professional appearance, protecting company assets, and respecting the confidentiality of proprietary information.
- Greeting guests warmly, anticipating and responding to their service needs, and expressing genuine appreciation.
- Communication through clear, professional language with all colleagues and guests.
- Developing positive working relationships, supporting team goals, and responding thoughtfully to employee concerns.
- Ensuring service quality standards are consistently met or exceeded.
- Performing various physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking throughout shifts, moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, navigating confined or uneven spaces, and performing delicate manual manipulations requiring fine motor skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- At least one year of relevant work experience in a similar role.
- No prior supervisory experience is necessary.
- No license or certification requirements.
