Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate Backend Engineer specialized in PHP to advance the architecture of our international platform, serving more than 30 million users. Candidates will thrive on tackling intricate backend challenges, combining swift innovation with system dependability.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and sustain scalable backend services engineered for handling large-scale global traffic.
• Develop functional APIs and enhance database query efficiency to ensure smooth user interactions.
• Participate in evolving our modular, service-oriented platform architecture.
• Produce clean, maintainable code with adherence to SOLID principles, object-oriented programming best practices, and established design patterns.
• Expertly debug across our technology stack to quickly identify and resolve faults.
• Leverage asynchronous processing through queues and implement basic event-driven designs for system improvements.
• Work collaboratively with senior engineering staff and product teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

Requirements

• Between 3 to 5 years of backend development experience specializing in PHP.
• Background building applications with Laravel or a strong foundation in Symfony with willingness to transition to Laravel.
• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, interface usage, code modularity, and disciplined code quality practices.
• Proficient in SQL including indexing, migration processes, and query tuning.
• Competence in utilizing AI-assisted tools effectively within technical workflows for software enhancement.
• Familiarity with modern infrastructure technologies including Docker and basic continuous integration/continuous deployment pipeline troubleshooting.
• Experience writing unit and feature testing to maintain code integrity.
• Fluent English communication skills suitable for a fully remote team setting.

Bonus Skills

• Knowledge of caching technologies like Redis or Memcached and cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Experience working within SaaS or travel technology domains.
• Understanding of eSIM technology and GSMA standards.
• Interest in distributed systems and horizontal scaling approaches.

Employment Details

• Job Type: Full-time permanent contract (contrato indefinido in Spain via Deel; direct employment in the UK)
• Work Location: Remote, based in Spain or the United Kingdom
• Language: English is mandatory for daily communication.
• On-Call: Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation is required to maintain ongoing system reliability, with paid standby fees, overtime compensation, rest provisions post incidents, and shared rotation schedules to minimize fatigue.
• Salary Range: £74,800 to £107,500 per annum based on location; UK residents only eligible to apply.
• Background Checks: Employment conditional on satisfactory background verification with candidate consent.
