Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Backend Engineer will join a growing engineering team, reporting to the Engineering Manager. This role focuses on powering essential backend functions such as customer decision making, third-party integrations, automation, and customer self-service. The successful candidate will develop a thorough knowledge of backend systems and user journeys, gain increasing project autonomy, and collaborate with product and frontend teams to deliver impactful features.

• Develop, maintain, and scale backend services utilizing Ruby on Rails and related frameworks.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
• Engage in code reviews and pair programming to share knowledge.
• Integrate and optimize external services powering subscriptions.
• Continuously improve backend performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Own medium-sized projects from conception to deployment and contribute to larger initiatives.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, supporting CI/CD with GitHub Actions and end-to-end testing using Playwright.
• Manage asynchronous job processing at scale through Sidekiq Enterprise.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• 2 to 4 years of backend engineering experience, preferably in startup or scale-up environments.
• Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails and large-scale job processing with Sidekiq.
• Proficient in deploying and maintaining applications on Heroku or similar PaaS platforms, coupled with CI/CD pipeline experience.
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs and automated test frameworks like RSpec.
• Excellent communication, collaboration skills, and capability to thrive in ambiguous settings.
• Proactive problem solver with genuine curiosity and passion for addressing real business challenges through technology.
• Committed to ongoing learning and growth, particularly in Ruby and Rails development.
