Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer based in London (with hybrid work flexibility, expecting 2–3 days onsite weekly), you will develop and scale the critical backend systems that underpin a global AI-first benefits platform. Your work will directly impact how companies support their employees across payroll, finance, and benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and enhance backend services powering a global AI-driven benefits platform
  • Maintain and develop core services including benefits management, allowances, payments, and reporting
  • Create scalable and reliable data models ensuring system integrity
  • Advance platform reliability, security, performance, and monitoring capabilities
  • Design and automate workflows and internal rules to simplify complex processes
  • Collaborate with Product, Frontend, Data, and Customer teams through the full development lifecycle
  • Write clean, tested, production-ready code integrating AI tools for efficiency
  • Contribute to decisions on architecture, technical standards, and engineering best practices

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in backend or software engineering roles
  • Proficiency in modern backend languages, specifically Golang and Typescript
  • Experience designing and using APIs such as REST and event-driven architectures
  • Strong understanding of databases, SQL and PostgreSQL, including data modeling
  • Proven ability to build and scale production-grade systems
  • Familiarity with cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfortable working with integrations and external services
  • Experience utilizing AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude in development workflows
  • Effective communication skills for engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities

Interview Process

  • Initial 20-minute introductory call with COO & Chief of Staff
  • 30-minute technical deep dive with Head of Engineering
  • Completion of a short task
  • Final 30-minute interview with CEO & Founder
