Job description
Role Overview
We specialize in developing software by directing AI coding agents, with most of our codebase generated by Claude Code. As a Backend Engineer on our team, your responsibility encompasses ensuring the correctness of this AI-produced code through architecture design, service division, precise specification creation, and diligent code review. This role requires engineers for whom AI-driven development constitutes their primary work method, not just an occasional tool or autocomplete helper.
About the Product
The project involves creating a new Commodity Trading & Risk Management (CTRM) platform tailored to a physical oil-products trader. This platform manages the complete deal lifecycle, including contract management, pricing using market formulas, cost aggregation, invoicing, logistics, inventory tracking, and hedging operations.
Technology Stack
The backend is developed with Node.js and Python, with React on the frontend. The system also utilizes Postgres for data storage, Docker for containerization, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Design service layers, data models, APIs, and transaction boundaries based on detailed requirements.
- Convert business analyst specifications into executable task briefs suitable for AI agents.
- Maintain and evolve project-specific agent guidelines including architectural standards, coding conventions, and testing policies.
- Conduct thorough reviews of all code changes focusing on data modeling, transaction handling, concurrency, error management, migrations, security, and system performance.
- Develop and maintain tests that validate critical behaviors, particularly involving financial calculations, rounding, dates, and state machines.
- Refactor code rigorously when AI-generated code, though syntactically correct, does not align with system requirements.
- Deliver functionality in two-week sprint cycles aligned with established definitions of readiness and completion.
Candidate Expectations
- Minimum 7 years of experience building and maintaining production-quality backend systems.
- Practical and thorough use of AI-driven development as the core workflow, including experience directing AI coding agents.
- Proficiency in structuring agent contexts, decomposing tasks for AI, managing costs, and verifying outputs.
- Expertise in domain modeling, relational database design, transaction semantics, idempotency, concurrency control, API design, testing strategies, and disciplined refactoring with the ability to explain the reasons behind architectural rules.
- Capability to swiftly understand, debug, and work with unfamiliar codebases.
- Strong skill set in Node.js and/or Python, solid experience with SQL, plus comfort using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
- Willingness to engage deeply with complex financial and logistics logic rather than avoiding these challenges.
- Proficiency in Git, effective code review practices, and Agile delivery methodologies.
- Business-level proficiency in Russian language.
Application Instructions
Please submit your CV along with responses to two of the following questions:
- Provide an example of a specification or task brief you have written for a coding agent and the resulting code it generated. Highlight changes you made after review and explain why.
- Describe an instance where AI-generated code passed its tests but was incorrect, including how you detected the error and adapted your process afterward.
- Explain the contents of your agent’s rules file (e.g., CLAUDE.md), selecting three key rules and their purposes.
- Identify system components you refuse to delegate to an AI agent and justify your reasoning.
What We Offer
- The chance to work on a challenging and unresolved domain problem rather than standard CRUD applications.
- Real autonomy over system architecture and development processes within a team that prioritizes AI-driven engineering as a serious discipline.
- Generous budget for AI tools, treating cutting-edge models as standard working expenses.
- Competitive salary determined through individual discussions.
