Azure Data Engineer

About the Role

Join Tata Consultancy Services as an Azure Data Engineer based at Letterkenny GDC, Co. Donegal, with a hybrid work schedule requiring at least three days onsite weekly. Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve existing ETL pipelines built on an on-premises data lake environment primarily using PostgreSQL.
• Lead migration and modernization efforts of data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration processes to Microsoft Fabric using current cloud-native design patterns.
• Develop and uphold complex SQL transformation logic including views, functions, and analytical datasets to ensure data quality and readiness for analytics.
• Create and optimize data models, including Power BI semantic models, to facilitate scalable and efficient reporting and analytics.
• Perform data aggregations and transformations across various models such as normalized, dimensional, and lakehouse architectures.
• Collaborate closely with analytics and reporting teams to tailor data structures for optimized performance and usability.
• Implement rigorous data quality checks, validation rules, and automated error detection within data workflows.
• Support master and reference data management processes by defining quality metrics, uniqueness criteria, and remediation strategies.
• Work alongside domain experts and data stewards to diagnose root causes of data quality issues and execute corrective measures.
• Monitor data sourcing across domains to guarantee utilization of approved, governed systems.
• Assist in evaluating and adopting tools and frameworks supporting data governance, architecture, and quality in cooperation with global technology teams.
• Document data pipelines, transformation processes, and architectural decisions to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintainability.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree is a mandatory qualification.
• Proven experience in data or analytics engineering roles with a focus on data platform modernization.
• Strong hands-on expertise in SQL, including complex data transformations, optimization, and data modeling.
• Experience managing ETL processes within on-premises or hybrid data lake settings, especially with PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge and practical exposure to migrating or modernizing data platforms to Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric.
• A solid grasp of modern data lake and data warehousing architectures.
• Familiarity with data engineering languages and tools such as Python, Spark, or similar.
• Competence in at least one relational database system like PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL.
• Understanding of data governance, data quality, and master data management principles and technologies.
• Experience in agile, collaborative, and cross-functional environments.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating business needs into technical solutions.
• Analytical mindset, strong attention to detail, and a proactive problem-solving approach.
• Adaptive to evolving environments and capable of designing scalable, pragmatic data solutions.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or related certifications (DP600 / DP700).
• Familiarity with finance or investment sectors.
