We are seeking an Automation Specialist to join a dynamic energy retail company located in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. This permanent full-time role offers a hybrid working model requiring three days onsite weekly. The successful candidate will engage deeply with energy retail operations and expand automation efforts beyond traditional workflows to incorporate agentic AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate operational workflows to identify repetitive tasks suitable for automation.
  • Design, develop, and iteratively enhance intelligent automation processes.
  • Leverage AI tools to advance decision-support systems beyond conventional rule-based automation.
  • Detect bottlenecks caused by human decision-making and develop agentic AI solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of workflows, automation logic, dependencies, and results.
  • Collaborate closely with teams across Technology, Product, Development, and Operations.
  • Track and report on automation effectiveness, efficiency improvements, and user adoption.
  • Participate in shaping next-generation intelligent operational systems from inception.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience within energy retail, utilities, telecommunications, water, gas, or similarly regulated industries is essential.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific operational processes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and workflow platforms.
  • Keen interest and knowledge in AI, especially emerging agentic AI capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data handling skills.
  • Proficient Excel skills; knowledge of Python and SQL strongly preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and independently develop solutions.
  • Innovative mindset focused on experimentation and continual process improvement.

Why Join?

This unique position offers the chance to work at the forefront of automation evolution, enabling intelligent, decision-making workflows. You'll gain access to current AI and automation tools and contribute to the development of innovative operational systems within a small and agile technology team of about 40 people, embedded in a broader organisation of roughly 130 staff. Your ideas will directly influence operational improvements.

Additional Information

  • Compensation ranges between AUD 80,000 and 120,000 annual salary including superannuation.
  • Eligible for a 12.5% short-term incentive plus potential annual bonuses up to approximately AUD 15,000.
