AutoCAD Designer

Position Overview

The AutoCAD Designer plays a critical role in the sales process by transforming customer specifications and field data into conceptual layout drawings and Bill of Quantities (BOQs) that support proposals and pricing. Reporting to the Sales Head, this position collaborates tightly with the Field Sales Engineer during proposal development and negotiations. Once orders are finalized, the Designer ensures a seamless transition of customer-approved design documents and BOQs to the production team, enabling accurate fabrication drawings.

Primary Duties

• Create concept and proposal-level OT layout drawings informed by site data and sales inputs.
• Generate multiple layout options and detailed specifications for technical presentations.
• Update proposal drawings swiftly to incorporate customer feedback and negotiation outcomes.
• Compile precise BOQs covering panels, LAF/HEPA units, doors, viewing panels, hardware, and electrical components for cost estimation and quotations.
• Maintain version-controlled records of all drawings and BOQs reflecting design and scope revisions throughout the sales cycle.
• Assist Sales Head and Field Sales Engineer with technical clarifications during negotiations.
• On order confirmation, package final approved designs and BOQs thoroughly for handover to the Production Designer.
• Collaborate with production personnel to resolve design ambiguities and ensure clear technical communication for fabrication documents.
• Keep a detailed log of all handovers, including dates and version references, for traceability.
• Organize and update registers of drawings and BOQs for all proposals, regardless of outcome.
• Coordinate on proposal templates and standard drawing formats linked to pricing.
• Provide technical drawing and BOQ support for tender submissions as needed.

Performance Expectations

• Deliver layouts and BOQs within agreed timelines to meet sales cycle demands.
• Ensure high accuracy with minimal post-submission corrections in BOQs and drawings.
• Complete handover packages for all won orders without omissions or ambiguities.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation and version control, resolving queries from production staff promptly, typically same-day.

Candidate Profile

• Educational qualifications include Diploma or ITI in Mechanical, Civil, Architecture, or Draftsmanship; B.E./B.Tech qualifications are advantageous.
• Between 1 to 2 years of experience as a draftsman or design executive, with a background ideally involving pre-sales, estimation, or BOQ preparation in fabrication, interior fit-out, or infrastructure sectors.
• Familiarity with modular operating theaters (OTs), cleanroom setups, prefab panel systems, or similar turnkey projects is beneficial.
• Comprehension of engineering civil drawings, strong mathematical skills, and unit conversion capabilities.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D is essential; knowledge of 3D software such as SketchUp or Revit adds value for client visualization purposes.
• Skilled in preparing precise BOQs linked directly to drawings and specifications.
• Ability to interpret site notes and sales inputs accurately to produce feasible layouts.
• Working knowledge of modular OT components to develop realistic proposals.
• Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and documentation discipline.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills to liaise effectively between sales and production teams.
