Job description
Role Overview
The Audiology Technician supports audiologists and clinical teams in evaluating, diagnosing, and managing hearing and balance conditions. The role requires technical expertise in audiological tests, effective communication skills, and a focus on compassionate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and assist with a range of audiological tests including pure-tone audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), hearing screenings, and speech audiometry following established procedures.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately for assessments, ensuring their comfort and full understanding of the testing process.
- Support audiologists during specialized diagnostic assessments and hearing aid evaluations.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, speech therapists, and other healthcare staff to provide coordinated patient care.
- Document all audiological tests, patient data, interventions, and observations accurately within Electronic Medical Records systems, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure audiology equipment is properly cleaned, calibrated, maintained, and ready for use, and report any equipment issues or safety hazards promptly.
- Follow infection prevention protocols and comply with relevant organizational policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to patient safety programs.
- Provide patient and family education about hearing conditions, diagnostic processes, hearing conservation, hearing aids, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions as directed.
- Offer emotional support to patients throughout their treatment journey.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of advancements in audiology technology, testing techniques, hearing devices, and care best practices.
- Maintain current certifications and licensure, including SCFHS certification.
- Perform other tasks assigned by supervisors within the scope of practice.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; a diploma, associate degree, or relevant certification in Audiology Technology, Hearing Sciences, or a related healthcare field is preferred.
- Certification by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) is mandatory.
- Experience working as an audiology technician in a healthcare environment is preferred.
- Good knowledge of hearing and balance anatomy, disorders, audiometric testing equipment, screening programs, and hearing aid support.
- Proficient use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and medical information systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to adapt to changing clinical environments and work independently.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to patient-centred care.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality consistently.
- Physical capability to stand for long durations, move equipment, and engage with patients in diverse health states.
- Flexibility with scheduling to meet patient appointment needs and department requirements.
