About the Role
Join PwC New Zealand as part of our Private Business team based in Napier, where you'll assist privately owned companies in managing their accounting and tax compliance, adapting to change, and making informed business decisions. This role involves working with a diverse range of local businesses and allows you to progressively take full responsibility for client assignments while enhancing your technical, commercial, and advisory expertise.
Daily Activities
- Prepare accounting and tax compliance tasks, including tax returns and annual financial statements.
- Oversee assigned client projects and ensure timely delivery with support from senior colleagues when needed.
- Engage directly with clients to collect necessary information, address inquiries, and deliver practical accounting and tax guidance.
- Identify risks, issues, and planning opportunities and communicate these with the broader client team.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with business owners and finance staff, becoming a reliable contact point.
- Collaborate with colleagues and specialists throughout PwC in New Zealand and worldwide to support broader client matters and advisory projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Possess a Commerce or Accounting degree, alongside a CAANZ or CPA qualification, or demonstrable progress towards certification.
- Relevant experience accrued in chartered accounting, professional services, or a similar accounting setting.
- Hands-on experience preparing New Zealand tax returns and financial statements, capable of independently completing compliance duties.
- A solid understanding of New Zealand tax and accounting standards, with a desire to continue developing expertise.
- Competency with Xero and Excel; familiarity with data analytics tools and tax-effect accounting is advantageous but can be acquired on the job.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and confidence when interacting directly with clients and team members.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
- A curious and practical approach, showing confidence to think critically, experiment, and seek guidance as necessary.
