Role Overview

We seek an Associate or Senior Associate Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical team in either the Plymouth or Exeter office. With a longstanding reputation for exemplary built environment projects in the Southwest and beyond, the successful candidate will deliver sustainable, high-quality electrical engineering designs. Hoare Lea's Plymouth office has operated since 1951, while our Exeter office opened in 2022, leveraging a global network of over 1,000 engineers and analysts.

Our projects span residential, hospitality, leisure, commercial, complex engineering, healthcare, research facilities, data centres, critical infrastructure, and advanced technology environments. We blend innovation, technical precision, and practical delivery to produce robust, sustainable solutions, collaborating with clients across public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the main client contact for projects, defining briefs and representing Hoare Lea professionally at meetings.
• Promote company services to generate opportunities aligned with client goals.
• Lead and manage project teams and specialist groups, prioritize workload, and chair internal meetings.
• Ensure delivery of profitable, high-quality projects; monitor expenditures and resource requirements, reporting to management.
• Delegate, review work of junior staff, and contribute to their development and performance goals.
• Maintain knowledge of consultant contracts, procurement methods, and commercial risks; identify and manage potential business risks.
• Share technical knowledge across the firm, ensuring compliance with standards and technical accuracy.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors to support repeat business and growth.
• Additional for Senior Associate: Lead large, multidisciplinary projects, participate in client interviews, support bid preparation, and contribute to leadership and team development, reporting to senior management.

Candidate Profile

• A degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Chartered Engineer status is required for Senior Associate; desirable or in-progress for Associate level.
• Extensive experience leading projects and managing client relationships.
• Strong expertise in electrical building services engineering aligning with regulations and design standards.
• Proven ability to lead integrated design teams, coordinate across disciplines, and produce precise technical designs.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with confident client management capabilities.
• Commercially astute with the ability to monitor project costs, identify risks, and ensure profitable outcomes.
• Demonstrated leadership skills in motivating, delegating, and developing team members.
• Highly organized with strong planning abilities, capable of working autonomously under tight deadlines.
• Competent in industry-standard software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes.
• Committed to continuous professional growth and knowledge sharing.
