Job Overview
Meta is looking for a driven and seasoned litigator to join as Associate General Counsel specializing in civil litigation. The role focuses on managing a wide array of complex civil disputes within Germany, particularly emphasizing privacy laws and GDPR-related matters, including collective redress actions such as class and representative lawsuits, as well as multi-party and cross-border litigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive litigation strategies and execution for intricate civil cases in Germany and other jurisdictions.
- Apply deep expertise in GDPR and privacy litigation, managing collective actions and coordinating global strategies across multiple countries when needed.
- Supervise external legal counsel to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with corporate goals while maintaining consistent legal positions.
- Provide counsel on pre-litigation resolution methods, emergency measures including interim relief and injunctions, and design settlement approaches where relevant.
- Advise internal teams on litigation risks and strategic considerations; collaborate closely with Product, Operations, Policy, and Communications departments.
- Oversee litigation budgets, governance, and status reporting to executive leadership.
- Track and interpret developments in German and EU civil litigation procedures and translate these into practical guidance for the company.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a valid law degree or equivalent qualification permitting legal practice.
- Authorization to practice law in Germany with approximately eight years of post-qualification experience in complex civil litigation and significant experience handling cross-jurisdictional cases within the EU or internationally.
- Fluency in German and English, capable of legal advocacy and collaboration in both languages within a fast-paced technology environment.

- Proven background in managing collective redress litigation, including model case and multi-party proceedings under German and EU regulations.
- Experience defending GDPR enforcement actions and handling civil claims related to data privacy.
- Skill in leveraging AI technologies to improve legal workflows and outcomes.
- Strong track record of managing external counsel and handling complex litigation budgets effectively.
- Ongoing professional development in AI applications and ethical implementation practices.
- Familiarity with in-house legal work or advising technology companies on civil disputes.
