Associate Electrical Engineer - Building Services

About the Role

Join WSP's Building Services Mechanical & Electrical team in Cambridge to work on landmark projects with a global leader in engineering consultancy. As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will play a key leadership role in managing projects within mechanical, electrical, and public health disciplines, driving project success through technical expertise and innovative solutions. You will integrate your discipline knowledge within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality designs meeting client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate experience at an Associate level, leading projects and contributing to winning or delivering commissions successfully.
• Co-lead within MEP discipline teams, offering design and technical guidance on diverse projects.
• Work independently on technical aspects of electrical engineering with minimal supervision or possess specialist expertise.
• Interpret client requirements and align project delivery accordingly.
• Oversee the completion of detailed electrical designs and supervise other team members' outputs.
• Assess project feasibility specific to electrical systems and lead feasibility studies.
• Manage the creation of detailed and performance specifications for electrical services, ensuring internal review before issuance.
• Monitor design schedules and resource allocation to ensure timely project completion.

Team Environment

Work alongside a dedicated group of 25 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers in Cambridge, part of a 400-strong national MEP team. Essential Technical Skills

• Familiarity with UK and European electrical engineering regulations and their application in projects.
• Previous experience on UK Building Services MEP projects.
• Proficiency or working knowledge of electrical design software and Revit MEP or similar 3D design tools for work allocation and project execution.
• Capability to effectively sketch and communicate technical details graphically.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD for electrical design work management.

Electrical Design Expertise

• Design of low voltage distribution networks.
• Low voltage standby generation systems.
• Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
• Cable and lighting calculations, both software-assisted and manual.
• Small power systems.
• Fire alarm, intruder detection, access control, security, disabled call, data cabling, and lightning protection systems.

Qualifications and Development

• BEng, BSc, or MEng in a relevant engineering discipline.
• CIBSE, IET, or Engineering Council accredited honours degree or equivalent specialist experience aimed at Chartership.
• Progression towards Incorporated Engineer (I Eng) or Chartered Engineer (C Eng) status.
• Applied Revit MEP training relevant to electrical engineering discipline.
