Job description

Overview

Novartis is seeking an Associate Director / Director for Biostatistics based in Dublin, Ireland. This role focuses on providing strategic statistical leadership in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), pricing, reimbursement, and market access. The candidate will collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to produce rigorous, payer-relevant evidence supporting access to innovative medicines. Note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position; candidates should ensure accessibility to Dublin.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic statistical guidance for HTA, reimbursement, market access, and associated evidence activities for assigned programs.
  • Collaborate with international and cross-disciplinary teams to develop scientifically sound and decision-oriented HTA evidence aligned with its intended application.
  • Drive implementation of efficient HTA methodologies, including hands-on experience with population adjustment techniques and evidence synthesis, capable of handling payer scrutiny.
  • Apply advanced methods relevant to HTA such as survival extrapolation, treatment-switching adjustments, health-state utility analyses, causal inference using real-world evidence, handling missing data, external controls, and transportability.
  • Possess a deep comprehension of drug development and how regulatory and payer requirements interact throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead the early and continuous development of evidence synthesis strategies to guide HTA planning and decisions.
  • Contribute towards the development of standards, reusable materials, automation solutions, and best practices to enhance HTA analysis quality, consistency, and scalability.
  • Provide support for payer interactions, responding effectively to questions and engaging scientifically with decision-makers, healthcare experts, and external professionals.
  • Communicate complex statistical results, including assumptions, constraints, and recommendations, clearly to varied audiences, including non-statistical stakeholders.
  • Engage in publication activities for asset-related research.
  • Manage project activities across concurrent programs by prioritizing and planning to ensure high-quality statistical deliverables and effective resource usage.
  • Assist in vendor selection processes and oversee scientific and quality standards for outsourced HTA tasks.
  • Demonstrate scientific credibility through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, method development, guidance contributions, or leadership roles in professional or HTA-specialized groups.
  • Mentor and coach biostatisticians on HTA-related statistical methodologies, procedural knowledge, and scientific communication.

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or closely related quantitative fields with a minimum of eight years' pertinent experience, or a Master’s degree with at least twelve years’ relevant background.
  • Proven expertise in HTA, reimbursement evidence development, and indirect treatment comparison techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of drug development processes and the demands, decision factors, and review workflows of major HTA and reimbursement authorities across several regions.
  • Capability to manage and deliver multiple complex projects simultaneously across therapeutic areas while influencing senior leadership within a global matrix environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with European Joint Clinical Assessment initiatives.
  • Background in Immunology or other significant therapeutic fields.
  • Familiarity with health economics, outcomes research, real-world evidence, data science, automation, or AI-powered evidence generation approaches.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary is estimated between 103,845 and 192,855 EUR. Compensation is established based on gender-neutral criteria such as experience, skills, and competencies, and is subject to periodic review.
