The Team

The Database Hosting Team, part of the Platform Hosting Services segment within Aladdin Platform Engineering, is dedicated to ensuring the reliability, stability, and performance of BlackRock’s financial systems worldwide. The team is responsible for OLTP and OLAP systems, data warehousing and distributed platforms handling significant data processing, along with replication and high availability implementations that guarantee resilience and continuous business operations.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

• Participate in global operations and engineering strategies for core mission-critical database platforms supporting Aladdin and other financial solutions.
• Collaborate on enhancing operational scalability and simplifying complexities through innovations and automation within hybrid environments, including on-premises and cloud infrastructures.
• Lead initiatives for performance tuning, security, and compliance to meet evolving regulatory and business criteria.
• Take responsibility for administration and engineering of OLTP, OLAP, data warehousing, and distributed NoSQL database platforms ensuring 24/7 availability and system resilience.
• Drive the creation and deployment of advanced automation tools and frameworks, leveraging technologies such as Python, Perl, Java, and LLM tools like Windsurf and Copilot to enhance monitoring and maintenance capabilities.
• Support adoption of DevOps methodologies for database deployment and monitoring processes.
• Work closely with infrastructure, application, and business teams across multiple regions to provide seamless service delivery and influence technology roadmaps and architectural decisions.

Qualifications & Expertise

• Preferred bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• Desirable four or more years of experience in enterprise database administration and engineering, with at least two years in software engineering or familiarity with LLM/AI technologies.
• Technical expertise in one or more of the following: Sybase ASE/IQ, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, high availability distributed NoSQL platforms, Cosmos DB.
• Knowledge of replication technologies such as Sybase Replication, MSSQL High Availability, HVR, and Fivetran.
• Experience with cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Skills in automation and DevOps tools including Python, Perl, Java, Go, Windsurf, Copilot, Ansible/AWX, Git, and Azure DevOps.
• Proficiency in Linux and Windows operating systems, strong shell scripting ability, and expertise in system performance analysis.
• A problem-solving mindset coupled with enthusiasm for automation, operational excellence, continuous learning, and data-driven decisions.
