Role Purpose
The Assistant/Associate Editor is responsible for editorial oversight of Adis journal articles to ensure they meet the required standards and customer expectations. The role includes contributing to specific therapeutic or specialist commissioning portfolios and supporting management of Adis journal titles.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee editorial control of externally authored articles, including review and original research submissions.
- Identify and invite appropriate peer reviewers for manuscripts.
- Make publication decisions (acceptance or rejection) based on peer reviews and own technical evaluation.
- Ensure manuscripts are technically accurate, well-structured for data presentation, and written in clear, concise English.
- Review and assess author revisions and incorporate amendments as necessary.
- Conduct final technical checks on article proofs.
- Contribute to content creation in therapeutic or specialist subject areas by identifying topics and authors for invited reviews.
- Evaluate new manuscript submissions for suitability, focus, and alignment with readership and journal interests.
- Meet monthly copy targets and assist with commissioning Adis Drug Evaluations and Profiles.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in life sciences, preferably pharmacy or pharmacology-related.
- PhD or postgraduate qualification coupled with clinical or medical writing experience.
- Strong understanding of scientific and technical issues across multiple therapeutic areas.
- Previous experience in scientific, technical, and medical (STM) publishing is advantageous.
- Knowledge of journal publication workflows and systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with the pharmaceutical industry and specialist expertise in at least one therapeutic area is beneficial.

The position is based in Auckland, New Zealand, following a hybrid working model. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in New Zealand and be able to commute to the office as needed.
