Job Overview
The Assistant Engineer will lead a team of Technical Officers responsible for performing scheduled Preventive and Corrective Maintenance on Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) and related components as directed by management. The role demands strict adherence to approved maintenance procedures, quality and safety standards, and operational protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate within the team to ensure completion of assigned maintenance tasks within designated standard timeframes.
- Ensure all team members hold the necessary qualifications and authorizations to execute daily tasks and additional assignments.
- Oversee safety, welfare, and discipline of the team, maintaining equipment, tools, and a clean working environment.
- Participate and complete technical skill training provided, obtaining the required certifications for maintenance duties on SMRT rolling stock.
- Uphold quality and standards for Preventive and Corrective Maintenance tasks according to work instructions and procedures.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety protocols to protect self, coworkers, and contractors.
- Show proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
- Plan resources and team allocation to meet maintenance schedules effectively.
- Conduct regular engagement with staff for feedback and performance improvements.
- Perform supporting roles, including operation of maintenance train shunter, overhead crane, and forklift as authorized.
- Execute housekeeping duties to ensure workplace hygiene and orderliness.
- Work according to a shift roster system compliant with Ministry of Manpower guidelines and Collective Agreements.
- Handle additional duties such as emergency incident response as assigned.
Physical and Safety Requirements
- Must not have sensitivities or allergies to materials, oils, lubricants, or dust encountered during maintenance work; PPE such as safety shoes, gloves, masks, and hearing protection will be supplied.
- Capable of working at heights on train roofs with appropriate Safety equipment.
- Physically fit to climb staircases and ladders, and stand for up to four hours continuously during maintenance operations.
- Able to lift tools or equipment weighing up to 10kg for men and 7kg for women.
- Comfortable working under train EMUs involving bending and squatting for extended periods.
- Adaptable to shift work without compromising focus and safety standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Preferably at least 4 years of relevant experience in leading maintenance teams and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
