Job description
Role Overview
As an integral member of the team, you will ensure every soldier is equipped with ergonomically designed and seamlessly integrated equipment that enhances their operational performance. This position focuses on providing expert Human Factor Engineering (HFE) insights throughout the lifecycle of soldier systems, including acquisition, design, development, testing, and evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine and critique the design of various soldier equipment, offering expert recommendations for improvement.
- Create and implement test and evaluation protocols to uncover human factor issues affecting soldier systems.
- Interpret test and evaluation outcomes to improve human-system integration, enhancing soldier efficiency and user experience.
- Maintain and periodically update HFE matrices relevant to soldier systems.
- Collaborate with Defence Technology Community members and academic institutions to initiate and support human performance research projects and trials.
Challenges
- Applying specialized HFE knowledge within a military and Army context, which is a specialized niche with limited direct references.
- Engaging closely with operational stakeholders to accurately diagnose and address human factor challenges impacting soldier systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Human Factor Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of six years’ experience applying HFE principles in product design and executing test and evaluations to identify human-centered design issues.
- Established professional network within the HFE community.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse teams.
- Proven capability to collaborate across functional groups and manage multiple stakeholders.
- Openness to attending international seminars and conferences relevant to the field.
- Competency in conducting test and evaluation activities both in controlled laboratory environments and operational field settings.
