Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and flexible AI Software Engineer to contribute to building our intelligent trading platform, comprising a website and Windows desktop application. Users access the public landing page and download the Electron desktop app to operate the product locally. Collaborating closely with the platform's lead engineer, you will translate business requirements into functional software across the full technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance and maintain product components including backend logic, web app, chatbot, and desktop application.
- Develop and support Python backend services handling market analysis, user authentication, and MetaTrader 5 integrations.
- Contribute to shaping the chatbot assistant's comprehension, tool invocation, and response generation processes.
- Integrate desktop app connectivity to backend services, managing authentication, updates, and secure AI API usage.
- Interface with MT5 to access financial data such as pricing, charts, account histories, and ensure careful handling of live trading flows.
- Assist in deployment and operation of the platform on AWS EC2, including managing logs and service restarts via Linux command line.
- Utilize AI development tools like Cursor to expedite coding while validating output before release.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and business teams to explain trade-offs clearly and deliver incremental, testable features.
Required Experience and Skills
- 1 to 2 years professional software experience or equivalent strong graduate projects, including relevant internships.
- Practical experience creating applications with a web frontend and a Python backend; familiarity with understanding and modifying codebases without disrupting system integrity.
- Experience integrating hosted large language model (LLM) APIs, understanding prompt engineering, tool calls, and streamed responses including troubleshooting poor model outputs.
- Comfortable using the command line and a willingness to deploy on Linux servers with guidance.
- Basic knowledge of financial markets concepts and MetaTrader 5 functionalities and terminology; broker experience is a plus but not mandatory.
- Strong understanding of system architecture components, data flow, and roles of web and desktop clients within small systems.
- Proficient in Python backend development, including FastAPI, asynchronous programming, PostgreSQL, and Redis, demonstrated through work or projects.
- Hands-on React and Next.js skills with TypeScript; familiarity with Tailwind CSS and ability to build UI screens matching existing designs.
- Experience with Electron or similar desktop app frameworks, with readiness to learn platform-specific packaging processes.
- Competence integrating AI model APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter) to modify chatbot behaviors via code.
- A grasp of forex, indices, commodities, and cryptocurrency markets along with risk management per trade to ensure trading assistant reliability.
- Basic AWS and Linux proficiency, comfortable operating EC2 instances and Linux commands.
- Regular use of AI coding assistants with critical evaluation of their outputs before integration.
- Effective communicator able to discuss technical decisions to non-engineers and transform business needs into software features efficiently.
Desirable Skills
- Demonstrable personal Electron applications.
- Experience building chatbots capable of invoking tools.
- Hands-on experience deploying applications on Linux environments independently.
- Engagement in personal trading, relevant market electives, or time spent working with brokerage platforms.
Additional Information
You will work paired with the current platform engineer, owning small, manageable product slices such as chatbot modifications, backend fixes, or feature enhancements. You will gain knowledge of trading domains and production deployments throughout your work. Given the sensitive nature of trading applications, careful judgment and reliability are paramount.
