Job Overview
The position involves working as an Architect within the Planning Section team, primarily supporting the Assistant Director of Planning & Projects Design. The role focuses on reviewing and providing technical feedback on authority design submissions in accordance with DIEZ regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the entire design process from initial concept through construction completion, ensuring solutions are practical, efficient, commercially viable, and compliant with technical standards.
- Contribute to design initiation, space planning, and direction of architectural projects.
- Possess strong expertise in material choices, facade systems, architectural details, construction methods, and their integration into urban and public environments, with hands-on involvement during execution stages to ensure design intent is realized onsite.
- Serve as a central coordination hub interfacing with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and government authorities to enforce collaboration, regulatory compliance, budget control, and on-schedule project delivery.
- Ensure timely completion of authority design reviews and comprehensive coordination across all disciplines for integrated reviews.
- Facilitate decision-making by clearly illustrating design impacts on the Master Plan and ensure coordination with other authorities such as RTA and DEWA, aligning master plans with GIS systems.
- Generate and refine architectural design concepts, including volume, layout, and façade treatment, while reviewing proposals to maintain architectural quality and consistency.
- Optimize layouts ensuring compliance with authority regulations and master plan development limits.
- Ensure architectural elements are seamlessly integrated with structural and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
- Understand and apply master planning and urban planning fundamentals including land use, density, traffic circulation, and relationships of built form.
- Ensure architectural designs complement the broader urban plan and public realm enhancements focusing on connectivity, pedestrian experience, and placemaking.
- Manage consultants and contractors to ensure adherence to DIEZ standards, critically evaluate submissions, challenge proposals as necessary, and maintain consistent architectural language and design quality.
- Conduct site inspections as required and proactively mitigate approval risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture is mandatory.
- At least 10 years of pertinent experience in architectural design and urban planning.
- Proven knowledge of authority regulations and standards.
- Previous experience working in the UAE and familiarity with local authority procedures is preferred.
- Competence in project management.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
