Arborist

About the Position

The City of Leduc is seeking an experienced Arborist to contribute to the upkeep and safety of the city's urban forest. This role is integral to maintaining green spaces by performing expert tree maintenance, pruning, and care as part of a field crew under the direction of the Arborist Lead and Parks Manager. Primary Responsibilities

• Execute skilled pruning, tree removals, and structural maintenance following ANSI and ISA standards throughout city parks, roadways, and natural environments.
• Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as aerial lift trucks, wood chippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and skid steers with safety and proficiency.
• Conduct thorough site evaluations to identify potential tree hazards and apply risk-reduction measures including corrective pruning, cabling, or removal when necessary.
• Diagnose and manage tree diseases and pest infestations by employing integrated pest management strategies and approved treatments.
• Assist with planting and nurturing newly established trees across the community to ensure their successful growth.
• Guide and mentor crew members on safe work methods, tool handling, and best practices, supporting seasonal or laborer staff.
• Maintain detailed safety and operation records including daily work logs, equipment checks, hazard assessments, and incident reports.
• Engage professionally with the public by providing courteous information and directing inquiries appropriately.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Possess ISA Arborist Certification (mandatory).
• Hold at least a High School diploma; education in forestry or horticulture is advantageous.
• Have over 3 years of hands-on experience in arboriculture or municipal tree care.
• Possess a valid Class 5Q Driver’s License with a spotless driving record.
• Additionally valued: Pesticide Applicator’s License and experience in supervision roles.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills with a focus on safety and efficiency.
• Exhibit flexibility to accommodate occasional evening, weekend, or standby shifts.

Compensation and Work Details

• 40-hour workweek.
• Salary range from $71,427 to $89,294 annually.
• Work involves hands-on outdoor activities within various community green spaces.
