Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking two Application Engineers to join our teams in Wellington for the Ministry of Justice's significant digital transformation programme, Te Au Reka. These roles focus on Microsoft Business Applications and operate at different stages of the application lifecycle, collaborating closely with the same technologies, vendors, and customers.
Teams and Responsibilities
- Te Au Reka Digital Design team: Engages in configuring, building, testing, and deploying new features as part of a multi-phase digital delivery programme.
- Digital Te Au Reka Services team: Takes ownership after deployment by supporting users, enhancing functionalities, resolving complex issues, and continuously improving platform stability and security.
Both teams coordinate across design, delivery, and support to ensure smooth transitions and operational excellence. The role involves hands-on engineering tasks such as solution configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, release management, documentation, and operational support while collaborating with technical specialists, vendors, and business units.
Required Skills and Experience
- Practical, hands-on experience developing, configuring, or supporting solutions using Microsoft Business Applications like Power Platform, Power Automate, Power Apps, Azure, Dynamics 365, and Copilot Studio.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 and integration of business applications within the broader Microsoft ecosystem.
- Knowledge or experience in application lifecycle management including source control, release practices, deployment pipelines, and environment management.
- Familiarity with development and collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Enterprise.
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues systematically.
- Ability to foster productive relationships with technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to ongoing improvements in Ministry services.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand at the time of application.
Additional Preferred Experience
- Supporting live production business applications.
- Experience working within governmental, regulated, or large enterprise environments.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation.
- Exposure to security protocols, privacy standards, change control, and release processes.
- Assisting business teams to adopt low-code, automation, or AI-driven tools securely and effectively.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is between $105,226 and $144,034 per year, dependent upon skills and experience.
