Job Overview
We are looking for a meticulous API Testing Engineer to ensure the quality, durability, performance, and security of RESTful and SOAP APIs. The successful candidate will have robust experience in API testing, automation, defect management, and collaboration with development and QA teams to deliver high-caliber software products.
Primary Duties
- Design, create, and execute test cases and scenarios specifically for APIs.
- Conduct functional, integration, regression, and comprehensive end-to-end API testing.
- Verify request and response payloads, HTTP status codes, and underlying business logic.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts for APIs.
- Identify, log, and track defects using defect tracking tools.
- Collaborate extensively with developers, business analysts, and QA teams during the software development lifecycle.
- Assess API performance, security, and reliability parameters.
- Analyze system logs to troubleshoot issues encountered during testing.
- Engage actively in Agile processes such as sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Generate clear test reports and regularly update stakeholders on testing progress and outcomes.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- Strong foundational knowledge of API testing methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Postman, Swagger, SoapUI, or their equivalents.
- Proven experience testing both REST and SOAP APIs.
- Familiarity with HTTP/HTTPS protocols, data formats like JSON and XML, and REST architectural principles.
- Experience in automated API testing frameworks/tools including Postman Collection Runner (Newman), Rest Assured, Karate Framework, and Selenium API integration.
- Basic proficiency in SQL for database validation.
- Experience with defect tracking tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in performance testing using JMeter or LoadRunner.
- Understanding of API security testing concepts including OAuth, JWT, and API authentication protocols.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of Microservices architecture.
- Programming capabilities in Java, Python, or JavaScript.
Educational and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related domain.
- Professional certifications related to QA or API testing are advantageous.
