Role Purpose

The API Engineer will spearhead the design, deployment, and continual enhancement of API integrations and system connectivity between internal platforms and external partners. Acting as a key technical intermediary among business units, engineering teams, and third parties, this role ensures secure, scalable, and high-performing integrations that boost operational effectiveness, foster business expansion, and deliver outstanding partner experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Gain in-depth knowledge of company products, APIs, and integration options; provide technical advice to internal teams, partners, and service providers.
• Architect, develop, test, and maintain API integrations leveraging proprietary systems and third-party APIs to align with business and customer needs.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Engineers to formulate integration tactics and enhance system-to-system data communication as business requirements evolve.
• Oversee API performance, data quality, and system health, proactively troubleshooting to minimize operational disruptions.
• Evaluate current API capabilities and propose workflow optimizations, architectural enhancements, and new technology solutions to boost efficiency and scalability.
• Create and update detailed API documentation, technical specs, architectural diagrams, testing procedures, and integration workflows.
• Advocate best practices in API development, integration standards, security, and performance within the development teams.
• Provide daily operational support ensuring dependable integration service functioning.
• Report on project status, risks, issues, and dependencies to stakeholders ensuring on-time delivery of integration projects.
• Design and execute system, integration, and data integrity tests to assist quality assurance and validate implementations.
• Lead technical dialogues with partners, clients, and vendors, detailing product features, API specs, and data prerequisites.
• Foster strong partnerships through continuous technical support, resolving integration problems and maintaining high service quality.
• Serve as the main contact for external partners coordinating technical needs, problem resolution, and product improvements.
• Prepare periodic reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders analyzing API performance and integration effectiveness.
• Maintain stakeholder matrices, conduct gap analyses, and identify chances to enhance partner engagement and integration success.

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related technical field; an MBA or Master's is a plus.
• 2 to 4 years of professional experience in API integrations, system integration, or executing technical implementation projects.
• Proven expertise in designing, deploying, testing, and supporting RESTful APIs and integrated systems.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, XML, and contemporary integration frameworks.
• Proficient in creating technical documentation, API specs, integration manuals, and test documentation.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the capability to identify root issues and develop scalable solutions.
• Experience with monitoring API performance, data integrity, and integration reliability in production settings.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across departments including Product, Engineering, Business Development, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Finance.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including direct interaction with clients, vendors, and technology partners.
• Solid project coordination skills managing multiple priorities and communicating risk clearly.
• Highly organized, proactive, comfortable working independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with technical writing expertise.
