Role Purpose

The Ansible SME will bring substantial expertise to shape automation standards and transition the current Chef automation framework into robust, production-ready Ansible solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and enhance Ansible playbooks, roles, and collections tailored to operational needs.
• Evaluate existing Chef cookbooks to design corresponding Ansible implementation approaches.
• Assist in automating and using AI to convert Chef cookbooks into Ansible assets efficiently.
• Perform detailed reviews and engineering fixes on converted automation components.
• Develop reusable automation procedures for tasks such as OS hardening, provisioning, agent installation, and configuration management.
• Provide automation support across both Linux and Windows platforms.
• Establish and maintain standards for variables, inventories, dependencies, and reusable automation content.
• Diagnose and resolve intricate issues arising during Ansible execution or migration.
• Lead peer reviews of code to uphold high engineering quality for Ansible implementations.
• Mentor engineers involved in the migration process to ensure consistent quality and knowledge transfer.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Extensive practical experience in Ansible engineering and automation.
• Proficiency in YAML, Python programming, and shell or PowerShell scripting.
• Experience automating configuration for both Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Familiarity with Git for source code management and CI/CD pipelines.
• Background in API integration and automation.
• Hands-on involvement with infrastructure and configuration management.
• Experience with Chef and Ruby is highly beneficial due to the existing large Chef cookbook repository (~1,600 cookbooks).

Preferred Certifications

Holding a relevant Red Hat Ansible certification is an advantage, where accessible.
