About Zopa

Zopa began in 2005 as the first peer-to-peer lending company and evolved into Zopa Bank in 2020, focusing on customer-centric banking and redefining financial experiences. Recognized among the UK's most beloved workplaces, Zopa emphasizes a culture of innovation and impact in finance.

Role Overview

Join the Mobile Platform team to enhance Zopa's Android mobile application architecture and infrastructure using Kotlin. This team supports the foundational components such as shared libraries, design systems, build pipelines, and analytics, ensuring reliability, scalability, and ease for product teams to develop on top.

The role involves collaborating with native mobile engineers to transition from React Native towards a primarily native Android experience, improving performance, robustness, and overall app quality while upholding best practices and architectural standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance of an Engineering Manager within a mobile platform team.
  • Design, develop, and enhance the Android platform alongside native mobile engineers.
  • Lead the migration from React Native to native Android development using Kotlin with a focus on strong architecture and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the broader mobile team, including React Native developers, to establish best practices and support skill development in native Android.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, technical debt, and defects to optimize the user experience.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build features leveraging native Android capabilities.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience building and releasing production Android applications in Kotlin, including Google Play Store deployments.
  • Solid understanding of Android frameworks, platform APIs, and native development standards.
  • Experience with modern, high-quality mobile apps focusing on performance, reliability, and user satisfaction.
  • Commitment to quality through thoughtful design, rigorous testing, and writing maintainable code.
  • Initiative to improve mobile engineering processes, tooling, and automation for broad team impact.
  • Customer-centric mindset aligned with Zopa's mission.

Additional Advantages

  • Knowledge of mobile security best practices applicable to Android production apps.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile apps, including automation of building, testing, and releasing.
  • Collaboration experience with iOS (Swift) or React Native developers in cross-platform environments.

Work Environment and Benefits

Zopa supports flexible working arrangements, favoring hybrid work with 2-3 days per week onsite in London. Employees may work remotely abroad for up to 120 days annually, subject to appropriate work rights. Zopa fosters an inclusive, diverse workspace with nearly 50 nationalities represented and encourages applicants requiring reasonable accommodations to disclose needs.

Additional Information

Zopa integrates AI fluency into its working culture and maintains a transparent AI policy during hiring: behavioural interviews prohibit AI use, while technical interviews may vary. Applicants will be informed about AI use in each stage.
