About the Role
This position, located in Pimperne, South West England, within Blandford Garrison Support Unit of the Defence School of Communications and Information Systems, involves the management and distribution of Ministry of Defence cryptographic materials and services. The role requires use of bespoke MOD IT systems and active participation in a small team dedicated to ensuring accurate accounting, secure storage, distribution, and destruction of cryptographic items.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the lifecycle of MOD cryptographic materials, including their ordering, storage, accounting with Quartermaster’s department, distribution, and authorized destruction.
- Operate various systems to maintain and deliver cryptographic equipment and key materials.
- Prepare and manage external documentation for assurance musters and inventory checks.
- Detect and report any breaches in security protocols immediately to higher authorities.
- Participate in on-call Duty Custodian activities outside normal working hours, which carry additional pay allowances.
Candidate Profile
Applicants are expected to have prior experience in detailed record maintenance, stakeholder communication, and adherence to service deadlines. A basic understanding of security protocols is advantageous. Candidates should be self-driven, adaptable, detail-oriented, and proficient in IT with strong verbal and written communication skills. Training specific to cryptographic custodianship and accounting will be provided if not already obtained.
Work Conditions and Other Information
The role requires 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with no remote working option due to the sensitive nature of the responsibilities. On occasions, attendance at the Distribution and Accounting Facility during activation of the Intruder Detection System may be necessary.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary starting at £27,866 per annum.
- Additional MoD contribution of £8,072 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme, with an employer contribution rate of 28.97%.
- Initial probation period of six months for new Civil Service employees.
- Entitlement to 25 days annual leave, increasing by one day per year up to a maximum of 30 days, plus eight public holidays and an additional day for the King's birthday.
- Ability to carry over up to 10 days of annual leave per year and six days of special leave annually for volunteering.

Additional Notes
- Relocation expenses are not provided.
- Travel expenses for interviews are not reimbursed.
