Alteration Specialist

Overview

The Alteration Specialist plays a critical role in bridging atelier expertise with Retail teams, providing essential knowledge and skills to deliver an enhanced and precise fitting and pinning experience for clients. By educating retail staff on technical garment details such as fit, body morphology, fabric behavior, and pinning, this specialist enables a stronger alignment between client-facing operations and garment craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Impart foundational knowledge on garment fit, including proportion, balance, ease, and movement, to retail teams.
• Increase awareness of body morphologies and posture to help retail colleagues accurately and sensitively recognize fitting requirements.
• Train Retail associates in basic pinning methods, emphasizing proper pin placement, garment care, and client comfort and safety.
• Enhance understanding of fabrics and materials covering their properties such as drape, stretch, weight, delicacy, structure, and alteration responses.
• Explain how garment construction and fabric selection influence alteration feasibility and restrictions.
• Guide retail staff on distinguishing when basic pinning is appropriate and when to seek intervention from Alterations specialists or Les Ateliers.
• Create a unified fitting terminology and facilitate smoother handover processes between Retail, Alterations, and Les Ateliers departments.
• Provide continuous support through coaching sessions, fitting clinics, visual aids, and immediate assistance to embed knowledge in daily activities.
